If you’ve got a Linear gate with a cracked hinge, a sheared bracket, or a bent rail, the fix usually comes down to welding and fabrication. At Warden Gate Repair Pasadena, we fabricate and weld Linear-compatible gate hardware every week, with most jobs running between $275 and $650 depending on the scope of the damage. We stock common steel profiles, hinge blanks, and bracket kits on the truck, so in most cases we can weld the repair same-day and have your gate swinging again before dinner.
Most Pasadena homeowners discover they need this when their gate starts dragging on the driveway, or when a weld point on an old Linear operator mount finally cracks after years of seasonal expansion and contraction. The part itself hasn’t necessarily failed, but the metal around it has, and that’s where a proper weld beats a patch job every time. Cole Rafferty, our owner, puts it plainly: “Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you exactly what it costs to fix it, before I touch a thing.”
Which Linear Models This Applies To
We fabricate and weld for the full Linear swing and slide gate lineup, including the most common Pasadena installations: the Linear LRA swing arms, the SL and SLR slide-gate operators, and the older M-series gate openers that are still out there doing daily duty on lots built before 2010. On the swing side, we regularly re-weld the operator mounting plate where the arm connects to the gate post, fabricate new hinge pins, and replace sheared steel at the pivot point. On slide gates, the most common weld job is the chain bracket and the receiver tower, followed by guide-roller wear plates.
If you’re trying to match a part yourself, look for the Linear model tag on the operator housing. The tag will read something like “LRA1000” or “SL2000.” That’s your starting point. From there, measure the bracket’s hole spacing and metal thickness. Here’s the compatibility gotcha: Linear changed the arm geometry between the older M-series and the newer LRA series. A bracket from an M50 will not align with an LRA1000’s arm even though the bolt pattern looks similar. We keep both patterns on hand so we don’t have to guess on-site.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, here is the honest answer. For weld-in-place structural parts like hinges, gussets, and rail extensions, a locally fabricated steel piece is often stronger than the original pressed-steel OEM part because we can cut it from thicker stock and weld it in a way the original never was. For moving parts like arms and limit-switch brackets, stick with OEM Linear or a proven aftermarket equivalent. The stamped geometry matters there, and a wrong arm will bind under load. We carry both and will recommend the right option before any metal gets cut. We are an independent gate and opener specialist, not a dealer or affiliate of Linear, and we’ll always tell you which route makes sense for your specific model.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Gate drops or sags at the free end. This is almost always a hinge weld pulling away from the post, the gate frame, or both. What starts as a hairline crack becomes a visible gap within a season, and the gate leans harder every week until the motor is fighting its own geometry.
- The operator arm chatters or shudders under load. On Linear swing systems, this usually means the operator mounting plate has cracked at a weld point. The arm still pushes, but it is flexing against broken steel rather than driving cleanly. If left alone, the cracks spread into the post itself.
- You hear a metal-on-metal pop or squeak from the pivot area. That sound is the hinge pin working against a distorted hinge barrel, which on Pasadena’s older wrought-iron gates has often already rusted from the inside out. The fix is a new barrel welded in, not more grease.
- Slide gate runs off the track or scrapes the rail. The guide wheels are fine, but the steel rail has developed a bend or the end-stop bracket has sheared its weld. Slide gates carry a lot of kinetic force, and when the rail geometry changes even slightly, the whole gate translates that force to the operator chain.
- The gate won’t close fully and the operator reverses for no apparent reason. This is the one that stumps people. The safety edge is fine, the limit switch is fine, but a cracked bracket has drifted just enough to change the gate’s travel geometry. The operator’s reversing sensor reads that resistance as an obstruction every time.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Pasadena, a straightforward hinge re-weld with new fabricated hinge pins runs between $275 and $400. An operator mounting plate that needs to be cut out, re-fabricated, and re-welded typically runs $350 to $550. A slide-gate rail repair with new guide-roller plates and a re-set track falls between $400 and $650. Those are real ranges, not bait. The difference comes down to how much steel we have to cut out and replace, and whether the post or gate frame itself needs reinforcing.
Every job starts with a written price before we strike an arc. You get the part cost, the labor, and the total, and that is the number you pay. No surprise line items, no “while we were in there.” If we open it up and find more damage than expected, we stop, show you what we found, and write a new number before we proceed. The weld work itself is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a weld fails within a year, we come back and re-do it free of charge, including the return visit.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect the obvious things: run your eye along every visible weld for cracks, push gently on the gate at the free end to feel for movement at the hinges, and look for rust weeping from joint seams. That level of observation is helpful and tells us a lot before we even arrive.
What you should not do is attempt to weld a gate hinge or operator bracket yourself, especially on a gate under spring tension or a slide gate with weight behind it. A failed weld on a moving gate is not a cosmetic problem. If the weld gives way while the operator is driving, you have hundreds of pounds of steel moving unsupervised. The same goes for high-tension springs on some older Linear swing assist arms. Those are not casual projects. Call us at (626) 657-5425, get a written price, and let our background-checked, photo-badged technicians handle it under the Threshold Standard that every Warden visit meets.
FAQs
A properly welded hinge or bracket, with the right steel and a good post-prep, will outlast the rest of the gate in Pasadena’s climate. Most of the failures we see on older welds are the result of rust from unsealed joints or years of friction at a moving point, not the weld itself. We always prep and coat the joint after welding, which is the step that gets skipped on most older Pasadena gates. Call (626) 657-5425 and we can assess your gate’s existing welds during your free estimate.
Most cracked hinges and brackets can be welded in place successfully, as long as the surrounding steel is still sound. If the metal has thinned from rust, or the crack has spread into the gate frame or post, we will fabricate and weld in a new section rather than patching over compromised material. We’ll show you the difference before we recommend anything.
A single hinge or bracket weld usually runs two to three hours from arrival to final cleanup, including prep, welding, cooling, and coating. A full slide-gate rail repair or a post replacement can take four to six hours. We give you a time window and a written price before we start, and we don’t leave until the gate opens and closes smoothly with the operator doing its job.
We stock the common steel profiles, hinge blanks, and bracket kits used in Linear repairs, and we keep OEM Linear arms and limit brackets on hand for same-day swaps in Pasadena. If your gate needs a specific Linear part we don’t have on the truck, we can usually have it in hand within one to two business days and schedule your repair around that arrival.
