Get your free estimateFAAC Access Control Installation: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide
FAAC access control installation in Pasadena typically costs $450 – $1,150 installed, depending on whether we’re adding a keypad, card reader, phone-entry system, or full multi-credential setup to your existing FAAC gate operator. We stock FAAC-compatible access control components on our trucks, so most installs are completed same-day once we arrive. Homeowners usually discover the problem when a keypad stops accepting codes, a card reader goes dead, or the gate ignores the remote but still cycles manually.
The access control side of a FAAC system is the part you touch every day, which means it’s also the part that wears out first. Buttons get sun-baked on Pasadena’s 90-degree afternoons, keypads collect dust from the foothill winds, and wiring connections corrode faster than you’d expect in a climate that swings from dry heat to damp winter mornings. When that layer fails, the gate motor underneath is often still perfectly healthy.
Which FAAC Models This Applies To
We install and service access control on the FAAC 402, 400, 412, 422, 770, E024U, S418, and C720 series operators. If you own a FAAC swing or slide gate installed anytime in the last 25 years, there’s a strong chance we can match your existing access control wiring to a current component without replacing the motor. The compatibility gotcha with FAAC specifically is the control board revision: some older 400-series boards use a 5-pin accessory harness, while newer 402 and 770 boards moved to a 7-pin with dedicated inputs for open, close, and pedestrian access. Pull the cover off your operator and check the board label. If it says “402 EBP” or “770 Compact,” you have the newer harness. If the board is beige with a large relay block, it’s the older revision and we’ll confirm compatibility before quoting.
For the part itself, we recommend FAAC OEM where it exists for your model, but we also stock quality aftermarket equivalents from Linear and DoorKing that interface cleanly with FAAC boards. The honest truth: an aftermarket keypad from a name-brand manufacturer often outlasts the OEM unit in Pasadena heat because the housing is better sealed. We’ll show you both options, give you the real price difference, and let you decide. There’s no upsell script.

Signs Your FAAC Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad accepts some codes but not others. Individual membrane buttons fail from UV damage and dust. One dead button means the membrane is breaking down and the whole pad will go soon.
- Card reader beeps but doesn’t open the gate. The reader is reading the card, but the relay output isn’t reaching the FAAC board. This is usually a wiring or relay failure, not a card problem.
- Gate opens on its own without input. A shorted wire or water intrusion in the access control housing is sending a phantom open signal. This should be addressed immediately, since a gate that opens itself defeats the whole security purpose.
- No response from any input, but the gate cycles fine from the manual button. The access control circuit has lost power or its connection to the board. The motor is fine. The control layer is dead.
- Intermittent operation that gets worse in the morning. Pasadena’s cool damp mornings create condensation inside older access control housings, causing shorts that clear once the sun burns it off. The pattern is the tell.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we typically see in Pasadena for FAAC access control installation:
- Keypad replacement (single entry point): $450 – $650 installed
- Card reader or fob system (up to 10 credentials): $550 – $800 installed
- Phone-entry / cellular intercom system: $750 – $1,150 installed
- Multi-entry setup (keypad + card reader + interior release): $850 – $1,350 installed
The range depends on wiring condition, whether the existing housing is reusable, and how far the access point sits from the FAAC board. Every quote is written, specific to your gate, and agreed before any work starts. The written price includes the part, the labor, clean wiring termination, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the installation fails within the year, the return visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
FAAC access control involves low-voltage wiring, which is not the dangerous part. The dangerous part is opening the operator housing where line voltage from the gate motor lives. If you’re comfortable identifying the low-voltage accessory terminals on your FAAC board (they’re typically labeled “OPEN,” “CLOSE,” and “COM” on a separate terminal strip from the main power block), you can safely check for loose connections. What you should not do is poke around the capacitor or any wiring connected to the motor itself. Those capacitors hold a charge even with power off and can knock you on your back.
Most access control failures we see in Pasadena could not have been fixed with a multimeter and patience anyway. The membrane keypads can’t be field-repaired. The relays are sealed. The wiring harnesses fatigue internally. If your system is dead, call (626) 657-5425 and we’ll diagnose it honestly. Cole Rafferty’s usual approach: tell us what it’s doing wrong, and we’ll tell you exactly what it costs to fix it, in writing, before we touch a thing.
FAQs
Expect 5 – 8 years from the original keypad on a FAAC gate in direct Pasadena sun. Shaded installations can stretch to 10 years. The membrane is the weak point, not the electronics.
In most cases, no. The membrane contact pads inside a FAAC keypad are not serviceable parts. Once physical buttons start failing, the sealed unit needs replacement. Call (626) 657-5425 and we’ll give you an exact quote, no obligation.
A straightforward keypad or card reader swap on a FAAC gate takes 60 – 90 minutes once we’re on site. A full phone-entry system with new wiring runs two to three hours. We’ll give you a written time estimate with the quote.
We carry FAAC-compatible keypads, card readers, and wiring harnesses for the most common FAAC series on our service vehicles in Pasadena. If your system needs a less common component, we’ll have it in hand within a few business days and schedule the return visit.
